How to Choose a Sliding Door Repair Company
Two quotes for the same door can be a long way apart, usually because they are quoting different work. Here is how to compare them, and how to judge the company once someone is standing in your living room.
Find out what is actually being replaced
“Fix the door” covers a lot of ground. Ask which of these is in the price:
- Rollers only
- Rollers and the bottom track
- The lock or handle set
- The glass unit
- Weatherstripping
A roller job and a roller-plus-track job are genuinely different amounts of work. Once you know which you are being quoted, the numbers usually make sense.
Ask about the parts
Rollers vary a lot in quality, and the cheap ones are cheap for a reason. Ask what is going in and what warranty comes with it. Ours carry a two-year parts warranty, which is a reasonable benchmark to compare against.
A phone estimate is a starting point
That is fine and normal, as long as everyone is honest about it. What you want to avoid is a firm number over the phone that quietly grows once someone has seen the door.
Then judge the visit
It is hard to tell a good company from a website. It is much easier from the first ten minutes of the appointment.
They diagnose before they quote. Anyone quoting before they have opened and closed the door a few times and looked at the track is guessing.
They show you the worn part. A flat-spotted roller is obvious once it is in your hand.
They explain the choice. Often there is more than one option, like replacing rollers now versus rollers and track together. You should hear both, with the trade-off explained.
They test it with you before leaving. Open, close, lock, unlock, with you watching.
Repair versus replacement
Most sticking doors do not need replacing. Rollers, tracks, locks and glass are all serviceable, and the frame is usually sound.
If the first thing you hear is a quote for a whole new door, get a second opinion before agreeing to anything.

- Are they insured?
- Is the quote in writing?
- Do the reviews mention doors like yours?
- Will they tell you what is wrong before quoting the fix?
- Did they take the old parts away and clean the track while the panel was out?
